ABI is very excited to accounce our merger of adoption services with
Acres of Hope, Liberia. Acres of Hope and Director Patty Anglin
have been working in Liberia for many years not only in adoptions, with a focus on special needs and medical needs adoptions,
but extensive humanitarian aid. Acres of Hope has started schools and medical clinics and turned them over to Liberian management. Acres of Hope has processed
hundreds of Liberian adoptions, with a focus on children with special needs.
Liberian adoptions were closed by the Liberian government on January 26th, 2009 due to concerns about
unethical practices by certain agencies. On October 7th, 2010, the Liberian Ministry of Health issued a
press release partially lifting the moratorium on adoptions and authorizing three licensed Liberian adoption agencies to place children with medical or special needs.
Acres of Hope is one of the three.
The Liberian adoption program is an excellent option for families with resources available
to parent children with minor to severe special needs. These needs include developmental disabilities, medical issues including
cleft palate, limb differences, hydrocephalus, caustic lye syndrome, HIV+ children, and other needs. Children's ages range from
newborns to older children. Visit the children waiting at Acres of Hope on our adoption photo listing.
Children live at Acres of Hope compound in Monrovia, where a very stable staff and expert medical
care provide the best medical and emotional support possible for the children in country.
Most of the children are referred by the Ministry of Health from local hospitals, where their
impoverished birth families left them in the hopes that they would be given the medical care the
children need to survive but which the family cannot afford.
Adoption fees sent to Liberia not only cover the costs of processing Liberian adoptions, but also
provide life-saving medical care for special needs children still awaiting their forever families. Please visit our
adoption resources to learn about sources of
adoption grants and funding.

Families meeting the following criteria may be suitable to adopt from Liberia:

Families will travel to Liberia at the end of the process to meet and bond with their child in his
home environment. Our staff on the ground will ensure that your trip is secure and educational.
We anticipate the time from your dossier arriving in Liberia and your family being matched with a child to
travelling home to the US with your child to be approximately 12 to 18 months.
